When we are unable to identify our emotions or feelings about what we're experiencing, we are unable to problem solve around our circumstances and can get caught between the question of, " Why is this happening to me, instead of focusing on what is this circumstance now demanding of me?
You Are Not The Problem:
I wrote this post to expand your perspective about how you can move forward despite what your circumstances are speaking to you. But first and foremost, I want to say that you are not the problem of your present predicament. So be cautious of the words or labels you are self-imposing on yourself, statements like, "I don't know what to do, I don't think this will change, or I don't know how to move forward." When we embrace statements like these in our lives, we essentially allow them to become our reality, causing us to limit our perspective from expanding on all the possibilities that can help us move forward.
Why Your Environment Matters:
If we only focus on what's happening around us, we can easily find the evidence of what's not going right, causing us to become more frustrated and overwhelmed, feeling powerless. But pause, take a deep breath, and let me show you how you are not the problem and how you can shift everything in this given moment.
When you plant a seed into the ground, it will begin to sprout and take root, and the only requirement that a seed needs is to be watered and tended regularly. If the seed doesn't sprout and grow, would you think that the seed is the problem? Or could other factors keep the seed from growing, like the atmosphere, location, or soil?
The same goes for a house plant. When you purchase a plant from your favorite nursery store, and weeks pass by, and you notice the leaves and soil become dry, do you think the problem is the plant? Or could it possibly be the environment?
Cultivate An Environment That Will Help You Thrive In Every Moment:
When we find ourselves trying to build an environment according to our present circumstances, it can cause us to become more frustrated and overwhelmed because we're planting ourselves in an environment that limits our perspective and produces no sense of direction.
The environments we cultivate determine how far we will grow. If you are feeling stuck or overwhelmed by the burdens of life, consider that though you may not be able to control what is happening around you, you can always change your environment.
The key to optimizing your mental health is identifying what areas of your life you want to grow in and taking the necessary steps to cultivate an environment that will foster change and keep you from feeling stuck. To keep growing in every season of our lives, we must be open-minded to listen to the signs that life is hinting to us that need our attention and require us to shift our focus and take immediate action.
Take inventory of your environment, and regardless of what your present circumstances might tell you, what changes can you begin today to help maximize your potential where you are now?
